Gevelot, Gaupillat and SFM's history is very complicated and intertwined.

Founded in 1820. In 1884 Victor Gaupillat and Jules Felix Gevelot merged in 1884 to form Gevelot Gaupillat. In 1887 Gevelot bought Gaupillat out.GG headstamp was used from 1889 to the 1910's. Then used Gevelot or SFM (or combination of both) headstamps. In 1884 the name was change to Societe Francaise des Munitions (SFM) but was also known as Gevelot Gaupillat until  1950 when the company name changed to Gevelot SA. The company then only used Gevelot (only Gevelot..not SFM Gevelot, Gevelot Paris or Gevelot GG etc.) headstamps from 1950 until they ceased ammunition making by 1980.

Marcel Gaupillat was a different company starting in 1891 and lasted until the early 1940's.

Note: Comet headstamps are

confusing.It is believed those with

CB and a Comet are

Cartoucherie Belge made and

those with just Comet and gauge

were made by SFM, France.

But did one make for the other

 or? Bischweiller of Germany

also had the same headstamp,

but believed to have been made by

 either SFM or CB. Begium.
